Our History

Nearly twenty-five years ago, George and Fran Rochford heard the call from God to open a crisis pregnancy center in West Pasco County, Florida.

Years before hearing that call, the couple was moving their family from California to Washington D.C.. There, on the heels of the Supreme Court’s legalization of abortion, Fran and George quickly became involved in the newly emerging pro-life movement, and participated in the first seven annual Marches for Life. During the early years of the pro-life movement, they soon discovered that defending life would be an uphill battle.

“So many Senators, and their aides were pro-choice, noisy and rude, that it was discouraging” remarks Fran, “but it was also very encouraging to meet so many wonderful and dedicated pro-life people.”

The Rochfords retired in 1985 and moved to Florida's West Pasco area, where they began to attend the local Right to Life meetings. Fran asked the group why the area did not have a local crisis pregnancy center. At that moment, Fran realized that God was calling her to accomplish this!

George, who has since gone home to God, was key in development and in getting support for the new center from their Church, (St Vincent de Paul, Holiday) and also from the Diocese of St Petersburg. Up until this point , the Rochfords were using their own savings to start the work.

Thanks be to God, the WPPC opened in March of 1987. Women, in crisis pregnancy began coming to the center to receive care and love from people who were genuinely interested in helping them and their pre-born children.
Opposing organizations launched attacks hoping to shut down the ministry, but thanks to the faithfulness of God’s people supporting the ministry with their prayers, and their time, talents and treasure, the life-saving work continues to grow.

Bl. Mother Teresa said that we should “give until it hurts!” Fran and George did that! After many years directing the center, Fran, [mother of 7, grandmother of 18 and great grandmother of 9], entrusted this responsibility to others who were hearing the call to defend life-- assisting mothers and their pre-born children.
